Fatema Khairullahi

Illustrator and graphic designer


Fatema Khairullahi was born in Bamiyan province in Afghanistan. She later moved to neighboring Iran where she earned her degree in graphic design from Alzahra University in Tehran. An established designer and illustrator, Fatema has extensive experience working with media production companies in Afghanistan where she produced children's literature and mass media content for many agencies established in development work in the area of education. She is passionate about growing her skills as a graphic designer and illustrator in digital media and for working for the children of Afghanistan, their education and lifelong learning.

Arezo Hassani

Illustrator, Creator and Author


Arezo Hassani is an illustrator, creator and writer born in Tehran in 1995. She finished her primary education in Kabul. Her passion for graphic design and creative work led her to successfully pursue her higher education in Kabul University in the area of graphic design. After finishing her degree program, Arezo self-taught herself animation and developing character illustrations purely following her creativity in her mind and imagination. She has been dedicatedly focused to work and improve her skills in illustration and animation for children. She has her own unique style that appeals to children’s imagination. She has successfully illustrated numerous textbooks, educational content and storybooks. She creates music, loves reading books and sometimes indulges in writing her own stories.

Gul Baloch

Author


Gul Baloch is a writer and activist from Sar-e Pul Province in Afghanistan. In 2011, he moved to Kabul in pursuit of better education and personal growth through knowledge. He aspires to become an established children's writer and produce literature for the Afghan children. In pursuit of this goal, he has already published five books for children and hand delivered them in most remote parts of the country to ensure that storybooks and school supplies reached under-served children in remote parts of the country. Following the fall of Kabul in August 2021, Gul relocated to France, and is eager to continue his work in the area of children's literature for the preservation of culture, literature and art back home.

Forozan Amiri

Editor, Content Developer and Curator


Forozan Amiri is a PhD holder in Farsi Literature from Shahid Baheshti University in Tehran. She has over 10 years of experience working with various organizations and partners in the area of literature, education, journalism and advocacy. She has left her mark in the writing world through countless storybooks and poetry books published for children in Afghanistan as reading and teaching aid and she has worked closely with the Ministry of Education in developing and editing textbooks for early learners. She supports young talents in their education journey and as well as writing pursuits as a mentor, dedicatedly working to assist young talents to produce learning aid in abundance and creativity. She is a mother and educator, who wants words and stories shape the imagination of children today for a better day tomorrow.

Galay Sahand

Pashto Translator


Galay Sahand was born in capital of Laghman province and completed her primary education in a Madrassa (Religious School) in an accelerated program. Following that she enrolled in Abdul Qasim Fardousi High School in Kabul to complete her secondary and high school. Galay completed schooling in only 6 years and graduated with honors. She begin her undergraduate studies in faculty of Pashto literature and then successfully completed her masters in the same area. Galay has extensive experience working in the area of education. She has been a teacher for a decade and has worked as a curriculum development expert with Teacher Training Department of Ministry of Education in Afghanistan. Galay now proudly teaches Pashto literature to the future and in-service educators in the Teacher Training University in Kabul. Galay has developed teaching content for various organizations, and has extensively translated material into Pashto language. She also writes and her articles are published in various magazines across the country.

Shabnam Zadran

Educator, Content Developer


Shabnam Zadran is an educator and content developer born and raised in Paktika province of Afghanistan. She completed her higher education and training in Pashto literature from Sheikh Zayed University located in the provincial capital Khost. Shabnam inspires to work and dedicate her life in the field of education and thus contribute to the development of the country through its human development. In addition to being a professional teacher for early grades, Shabnam writes books and develops educational content that enables children and her students to learn through creative approaches and play. She wants to further master the skill of creative learning and education through play via sheer power of her imagination and passion.

Parween Pazhwak

Poet and Author


Parween Pazhwak was born in Kabul in 1345 in an established family with literary background and poetry. Parween finished her school in Kabul and continued her higher education in Abu Ali Sinai Balkhi Institute of Medicine in Kabul University. Parween started her literary career in writing at a young age and has written many poems, published stories and collaborated with partners and agencies to advocate for empowerment and education of Afghan people. Currently living in Canada, Parween continues to supply stories and mentors novice and inspiring writers in the area of children’s literature with the passion and enthusiasm to train the future generation of children’s writers in Afghanistan. Despite the vast distance between her motherland and herself, Parween continues to touch the hearts and minds of the children of Afghanistan through her inspirational work and educational stories.

Mohibullah Zegham

Author, Editor, Translator


Mohibullah Zegham has graduated from Kabul University and is an enthusiast of literature and writing. Professionally, Mohib has a diverse work background in curriculum, education content and learning material development for the education sector in Afghanistan with different prestigious agencies including the Ministry of Education. In his personal capacity, Mohib is an established writer and has published numerous stories in Dari and Pashto that are translated into English for international audiences as well. He has secured various awards for his creative work and contribution in literature and particularly invoking imagination and creative thinking among young readers. Mohib has widely traveled around the world and inspires to learn more from different cultures and people and further develop his art of storytelling and writing. He currently resides in Germany and is actively engaged in developing stories and education content for children in Afghanistan and abroad.

Deeba Zargarpur

Senior Editor, Author


Deeba Zargarpur is a senior editor at Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers and Salaam Reads, an imprint that highlights Muslim main characters as the heroes of their own stories. Her love of literature is due to the stories her Afghan parents spun in her childhood. When she isn't editing, she dabbles in writing. Her debut young adult novel, House Of Yesterday, releases on November 29, 2022. It is a goal of Deeba's to inspire, support and mentor future Afghan writers on their publication journey through one on one mentorship, as well as providing industry tips and information on how to navigate traditional publishing. Outside of her day job, she also provides editorial support in English for bilingual picture books, with the goal of broadening the reach of the Afghan authors and to provide educational materials for newly resettled Afghan children to continue their reading skills in Dari and Pashto, as well as strengthening their English language skills.

Mursal Siddiqi

English Translator


Mursal Siddiqi was born and raised in Kabul is a teacher, educator and translator that works with young learners. She finished her Masters in English literature in Kabul Education University and has experience as a teacher for young learners in private education institutions. She wants to further develop her skills in translating children’s literature from Dari/Pashto into English and this way ensure that stories don’t lose their meaning, essence and imaginary elements in the translation process. She is passionate about working with children in Afghanistan and feels that words and magic of storybooks are the only way to reach the depth of children’s imagination and mind for their development.
